Unit 2 - Assignment 2 - Task 2 - Demonstrate how to set up equipment

Demonstrate how to set up equipment
This is the first section of the blog it will show you how to set up equipment and peripherals for you computer system such as :

  • Monitor
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • RAM
  • Hard drive
Setting up the monitor
The  monitor I was using requires a power cable and a VGA  (Video Graphics Array ) cable so that it will correctly function.

Step 1 - VGA
Firstly i plugged in the VGA and power cables into the monitor.
Step 2 - Connecting the VGA to the computer
After connecting up the monitor i connected the VGA cable to the computer and the power cable was plugged into the socket.
Connecting the keyboard & mouse
I was using an older keyboard therefore it uses a PS/2 Connector, when using an older keyboard with a PS/2 connector like this you system may need to restart before the keyboard will work. On the other hand as the mouse uses a USB connector the mouse can be hot swapped (connected and work without restarting the system).

Step 1 - Connecting the PS/2 cable & the USB cable
As the cable coming from the keyboard only has one connector i connected the PS/2 cable to the computer and I did the same for the mouse but the mouse has a USB cable.

Below is the keyboard I was using as you can see it is an older keyboard, next to the keyboard is the mouse I connected.

Replacing the computers RAM(Random Access Memory)
RAM is temporary and a computers requires it to run I connected the RAM by inserting into the DDR2 slots on the motherboard.

Inserting the RAM
Below is a picture of the RAM I used I took it holding both of the far edges (right and left in the picture ) and the gold strip facing down .
With this grip I inserted the RAM into the DDR2 slots on the motherboard making sure that one pressed down the white clip at either side of the slot had secured properly.

HDD (Hard Disk Drive)
The HDD is a way of storing information in this computer system is needs a SATA (Serial advaned technology attachement) and a molex power cable to supply power to the drive.

The drive is screwed to the side of the computer case and then the wires are connected.
